Free Byrd Concept
A short concept piece I directed for my screenplay Free Byrd. It was shot over the course of 1 1/2 days for $600, blood, sweat, and tears. A few days before shooting I lost my actors to pilot season and my cinematographer to a BMW campaign. To make this happen I had to scramble. Luckily another cinematographer I knew stepped up to the plate with all his gear and gathered a very small crew of four. I managed to find a new actress, her boyfriend, and an old stuntman (who had done little acting) to be my players. And with no rehearsal, no script supervisor, producer or 1st AD, we just guerrilla styled it and made it happen. In hindsight shooting three scenes, running footage, and stunts in 1 1/2 days was ambitious to say the least, but I had passion to make it happen, warts and all. I by no means think it’s perfect, but I’m proud of what we accomplished with no time or money.
